Black GI heroes

Briefly home to African American soldiers later murdered in Belgium. Hushed up in 1945, it remains a largely forgotten atrocity of the Battle of the Bulge.

This village saw a heavy build-up of allied units prior to Operation Overlord, including American Combat Engineers and 2ème division de la France Libre.

We’ll also meet the Toby the Fighting Turtle, the badge mascot of the 68th Tank Battalion. The design was a gift to the unit from Walt Disney.
